Ms. Dennis made a substitute motion, seconded by Mr. Pico, directing staff to
discourage applications on the East Side properties until the San Francisco process was
fmished.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Ayala, Dennis, Michclotti, and Pico.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Mayor Tarver.
ABSTAIN: None.

7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL

Mr. Pico asked staff to explore the possibility of the City providing financial assistance
up to $10,000, in sponsoring a parade in June.

Ms. Acosta asked if he meant staff time and financial assistance.

Mr. Pico said he did not want staff to provide any other assistance than it would not
normally provide. His intent was to have the City replace the Fair Board's role in providing
financial assistance, in order to continue the parade tradition.

Ms. Michelotti would like to immediately get input from the committee who has worked
on this parade in the past and see if it would be willing to take the lead in putting together a
parade for June.

Mr. Pico wanted to do what he could to try and preserve the parade tradition. He said the
parade could be as simple as boy scouts/gift scouts and sports teams walking down the streets.

Ms. Acosta said if Council supported moving forward on this, she would send a memo to
Council regarding the procedure.

Ms. Michelotti wanted to quantify the monetary support for the parade. She hoped there
was an organization that would take the ball and go forward with an organized parade.

Ms. Ayala did not want staff spending a lot of time on this issue. If the parade were
replaced, she would like it replaced with another community parade.

Pleasanton City Council 17 04/20/99
Minutes
