Transit Issues <br /> <br /> Jack Dove, 3263 Vineyard Avenue, requested that Council take action to get the <br />demonstration train from Stockton to San Jose running sooner versus later and to make sure that <br />the State, County and everyone else involved know that if Pleasanton supports Route 84, that <br />should take a significant amount of traffic off the interchange of 1-580/680 and will alleviate the <br />traffic problem. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarvet encouraged Mr. Dove to attend the meetings of the Tri-Valley <br />Transportation Committee and the Congestion Management Authority for Alameda County and <br />make his statements there as well. <br /> <br />Officer Cornell and canine Drux <br /> <br /> Ms. Acosta stated that the canine program has worked well even though it's not really <br />well known. She felt that the program worked well because of the dedication of the trainers and <br />the officers that are involved. When the responsibility is taken on to be part of the canine <br />program, it becomes a part of your life. She thanked Officer Cornell for his participation. <br /> <br />6, PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> <br />Item 6a <br />Report on Community Survey conducted by J. D. Franz Research (SR95:370) <br /> <br /> Steven Bocian presented the staff report. <br /> <br /> Jennifer Franz stated the survey was done by phone between June 11-19, 1995. There <br />were 437 interviews that averaged 12-13 minutes in length with an extraordinarily high <br />completion rate (75 %). The survey revealed that the community thinks this is an excellent place <br />to live and raise children and is a safe place to live. Only 1% of the residents felt that <br />Pleasanton wasn't a safe community. When 80-90% is achieved, it is a strong affirmation of <br />what the City is doing and providing. More than 50 % of those interviewed felt that most City <br />services were excellent or good. The three services that did not had high percentages of "Don't <br />Know" answers. As to these services, it wasn't because the City isn't doing a good job, it was <br />because the resident did not know what is being done. The public did not seem to know much, <br />if anything, about the sports programs for youth and adults, about the recreational non-sports <br />related activities and about the fall leaf collection program. She felt that public information as <br />to these services would be helpful and felt the City should recognize how happy the residents <br />are about most of the services, especially the police and fire service. Water quality (i.e., taste) <br />was the only area the community was displeased with. When asked what the community would <br />like to see changed, the majority of responses asked that the rate of growth and development be <br /> <br /> 11/07/95 -5- <br /> <br /> <br />
