17.2 Notification Requirements <br /> <br /> A probationary employee and his/her department head <br /> shall be notified of the expiration of the employeels <br /> probationary period forty-five (45) days in advance of <br /> said date. <br /> <br /> Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date <br /> of the probationary period, the department head shall <br /> file with the Personnel Officer a statement as to <br /> whether or not the probationary employee shall be <br /> retained in the position. <br /> <br /> An employee who is not rejected prior to the completion <br /> of the prescribed probationary period shall be deemed to <br /> have passed the prescribed probation period <br /> automatically subject to the provisions of Section 17.3. <br /> <br /> In order that the probationary employee may be made <br /> aware of his/her progress toward both learning and <br /> fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of his/her <br /> position, he/she shall receive a hi-monthly performance <br /> evaluation. The hi-monthly performance evaluations <br /> shall be made in writing and shall be conducted by the <br /> employee's immediate supervisor and division commander. <br /> <br /> If a probationary employee is off work due to a leave of <br /> absence, sick leave or disability leave or any <br /> combination thereof for a period exceeding thirty (30) <br /> consecutive calendar days, said employeels probationary <br /> period shall be extended automatically by the length of <br /> said leave. <br /> <br />17.3 Extension of Probationary[ Period <br /> <br /> The probationary period may be extended once by the <br /> Personnel Officer for a period not to exceed ninety (90) <br /> days in order to further evaluate the performance of the <br /> probationary employee. <br /> <br />17.4 Re~ection of Probationar3[ Employee - Original <br /> Appointment <br /> <br /> The City Manager may terminate a probationary employee <br /> during the probationary period upon fifteen (15) days <br /> written notice without right of appeal in any manner by <br /> the probationary employee. <br /> <br />17.5 Rejection of Probationar~ Employee - Promotional <br /> Appointment <br /> <br /> Any employee rejected during the probationary period <br /> following a promotional appointment or at the conclusion <br /> of the probation period shall be reinstated to a <br /> position in the class from which he/she was promoted. <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />Page 19 <br /> <br /> <br />
