16.2 Eligible Applicants <br /> <br /> Persons eligible to enroll in the Educational Incentive <br /> Plan have met all of the following requirements: <br /> <br /> A. Are permanent (non-probationary) employees with the <br /> City of Pleasanton. (Employees on probationary <br /> status as a result of promotions shall be deemed <br /> eligible under this plan.) <br /> <br /> B. Have met all requirements of their position as set <br /> forth in the City's Classification Plan in effect <br /> at the time the employee was hired. <br /> <br /> C. Intend to pursue an educational level related to <br /> his/her present position as determined by the <br /> Educational Standards Committee. <br /> <br /> D. All new employees hired by the City after the date <br /> of adoption by the City Council of this revised <br /> Educational Incentive Plan shall be eligible for <br /> educational incentive pay for eligible degrees or <br /> college credits earned prior to their date of <br /> employment at the time they reach the top step of <br /> their classification's salary range. NOTE: Job <br /> relatedness shall pertain to both the relationship <br /> of the field of study to the position held by the <br /> employee and, the relevance of the educational <br /> level to the employee's position. <br /> <br />16.3 Educational Standards Committee <br /> <br /> An Educational Standards Committee comprised of a <br /> representative of the Police Officers' Association, <br /> Assistant to the City Manager and the Chief of Police <br /> shall be established for the purposes of: <br /> <br /> A. Determining the eligibility of each employee to <br /> enroll in the Educational Incentive Program. <br /> <br /> B. Determining in advance of enrollment in the <br /> Educational Incentive Program the job relatedness <br /> of the educational level the employee intends to <br /> pursue. <br /> <br /> NOTE: The burden of proof as to the job <br /> relatedness of specific educational levels shall be <br /> upon the employee. The Educational Standards <br /> Committee may require the employee to furnish any <br /> documentation deemed necessary in the Committee's <br /> determination of job relatedness. <br /> <br /> C. Determining successful completion of the <br /> educational level for which educational incentive <br /> pay is to be received. <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />Page 14 <br /> <br /> <br />
