II elements not shown are: wet playground and the future clubhouse. In Phase II, the existing
three pools will be rehabilitated (equipment and decks replaced and new pipes). Phase I installs
a fifty meter competition/lap pool that can be used year-round. In the winter time the fence will
be closed and the other pools covered. In the summer time, the same fence will be rolled open
to allow kids/adults to flow back and forth and enjoy one unified project. Phase I parking is on
the south side towards Black Ave. The main entry and new locker rooms are in the center of
the site and can serve the pools year round. There will be a blue/green wall with a curved shape
that will hide behind the trees and is half their height. There are two entry ways. The main
entry to the ticket area has a sun shading trellis. The surrounding ceramic tile walls will be lit
up at night. The second entry is into the birthday party area. The wall on the backside of the
project will have red brick similar to the red masonry of the existing buildings. The shake roof
will be replaced with metal roofing, which is more easily maintained. In Phase II, the recreation
building roof will also be replaced with metal roofing.

Ms. Dennis asked how the pool would be heated.

Mr. Petta replied that the pool would be heated by natural gas. Other options are being
investigated along with the capital costs. Options for mechanical equipment, filtration systems,
circulation systems and heating systems are to be considered along with capital costs and long
term maintenance costs.

Mr. Pico asked how long the building is from end to end and what the face is made of.
Is the material graffiti proof?.

Mr. Petta stated it is approximately 225 feet from where the new pool equipment will be
to where the old pool equipment was. The face is ceramic. The wall will be heavily landscaped
in areas that have no windows. Mr. Petta could not guarantee the wall to be graffiti proof but
where he has used landscaping in other projects, it makes it difficult to get to the wall surface.
They have added decorative joints in cement plaster so if a tag is applied, there is a break to
paint to.

Mayor Tarver asked for public comment.

Melissa Romas, 6481 Hansen Drive, represented Foothill High School and the Pleasanton
Seahawks Swim Team. She thanked Council, the Parks and Recreation Commission, City staff,
the task force and consultants for the great job and hard work that was done on this pool project.
She asked Council for continued support on this project.

Mayor Tarver hoped that the facility is providing enough parking.

Ms. Michelotti wanted to commend the Foothill High representative and felt the pool
with be an asset to the community.

09/19/95 -5-
