Ms. Acosta stated that the Board believed it required an additional position. She stated
that the other cities could share the cost to get started.

Ms. Dennis asked how the potential membership in a Tri-Valley CVB is being received
from the other communities.

Mr. Hinsley stated that there were discussions over the past several years but through the
efforts of the City Manager's office over the last five months, it have gone farther than in the
past and felt it was a process that had to be worked out. He felt that the representation on the
Board of Directors would have a relationship to the funding involved.

Ms. Acosta stated Pleasanton has more hotel rooms, but in contrast, Livermore has the
wineries and golf courses. Livermore has begun talks with the wineries and they now have a
member on the Board. She stated that the most productive talks have begun and it is at the point
where it will or will not take place in the next few months.

Mr. Hinsley stated that it will continue to promote the City of Pleasanton, but at the same
time to expand to a Tri-Valley CVB as quickly as possible.

Bob Cordtz, 262 West Angela, stated he was a former member and asked the Council
to support the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

_ Shelby Martin, 777 Peters Avenue, indicated the Chamber of Commerce was the parent
organization of the CVB. The Chamber is very interested in the CVB and has begun taking its
calls on a separate line. The Chamber is willing to be part of the process and felt it is a viable
organization. She believed the benefits to the City and community will expand as the CVB
grows.

Bob Werner, 4103 Graham Street, stated he was a member of the CVB and President of
the Temple Board of the Masonic Lodge located on Hopyard Road. He felt that the community
needed a strong CVB and felt a Tri-Valley CVB would give greater out-reach to the
communities. The CVB is functioning without paid staff currently. The members of the Board
are working to keep things going with the existing accounts and activities coming in. The Tri-
Valley CVB should start with a clean slate and hire someone on a consultant basis who
understands the CVB world in order to facilitate bringing together the Tri-Valley CVB. He felt
that the consultant would not have to be a full time person and would not have to be inherited
by the other communities.

Ms. Dennis realized how important the function of the CVB is and the very important
role it has in the development of our community. She felt it was logical to have a Tri-Valley
CVB because of our City's size. She wanted to create the Tri-Valley CVB now, but it's not far
enough along to be considered at this time.

08/07/95 -19-
