Mr. Evans believed in-line skating seems to be the newest recreation for adults and
children and it appears to be the fastest growing sport in the nation. He thought it would
continue to be popular.

Mayor Tarver asked about the elimination of the second bathroom; will the single
bathroom still be able to accommodate the number of people who use the park?

Mr. Evans stated the single bathroom will have multiple stalls on each side and will be
adequate to handle people who use the facilities.

Mr. Pico asked how access to the tennis courts had been resolved. He also inquired
about in-line skating and asked about recent action that the Task Force might have taken
regarding alternative sites or a temporary site.

Ms. Bengtson described how the tennis courts can now take charge cards to punch in use
numbers and will allow control of the court electronically. The older courts could be retrofitted
with this device. She mentioned that one of the recreation supervisors is putting together an
outline of an in-line skating Task Force that will include a variety of ages and mentioned that
in 1997, the City has funds that are budgeted for in-line or skate boarding facilities. Also, the
City will be able to offer in-line hockey league play at the Pleasanton Middle School.

In response to his question, Mayor Tarver was told there would be a Park and Recreation
Commissioner who will be working with that Task Force.

Sherry Wipfli, 5788 Hansen Drive, felt the safety equipment required by the City for the
in-line hockey programs is too expensive and expressed a need for a place for the kids to skate
when not in a supervised program. She also described the difficulty for kids to get to designated
skateboard areas without going through a business park (where skateboards and in-line skates
are prohibited).

All Councilmembers concurred that the in-line skating issue should and will be looked
into more extensively at a later date.

It was moved by Ms. Mohr, and seconded by Ms. Michelotti, that Resolution No. 95-46
be adopted, approving concept C as the amended Master Plan for the Pleasanton Tennis and
Community Park and directing Mr. Pico, the School District liaison, to see if there is a way to
open up other School District facilities/playgrounds for in-line skating as is now done at the
Pleasanton Middle School.

The r011 call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

05/09/95 -5-
