Jocelyn Combs indicated the District is working with the train group in Niles Canyon for
a trail through there, sometimes next to the fight of way, sometimes near it. She stated there
are other groups (Rails to Trails/Rails With Trails) who sponsor this kind of amenity.
Throughout the United States there are trails, sometimes with major commuter lines. It is
important that the players sit down together to discuss this. In the Pleasanton General Plan and
in the Park District Master Plan, there are trails but no trains. If this is approved, there may
be a train, but no trail and we all need to sit in the same room and figure out what is really
going to happen. If the County is going through an environmental process, the District needs
to contact the County and suggest it withhold certification until after the advisory vote. She felt
it was possible there may be a conflict.

Ms. Michelotti suggested that Alameda County hold an environmental hearing in the
Valley. She would like to see that happen before it goes to an advisory vote so people will have
more information.

Ms. Mohr asked if the item should be continued until the Park District can work out all
the loose ends.

Ms. Combs said it could be done, but that does not necessarily have to happen in order
to put an advisory measure on the ballot. She just felt that before anything physical is done, we
have to make sure it is a compatible project.

Ms. Mohr indicated someone had called her to inquire when the mess behind the old
depot will be cleaned up.

Mr. Churlca did not think that was an issue. They use speeder cars on the rails for
Heritage Days and use some of the stuff for seating areas. The static display of cars are being
repaired this summer. It is just a matter of moving the other material and it has not been a high
priority up to now. This is the first notice he has had that there was a problem.

Item 6g
Ballot MP~ure to Establish Limitations on Terms of Office for Mayor and
Councilmembers. (SR96:167)

This item was continued to June 18, 1996.

Item 6h
COuncil meeting dates for Jul_v 1996. (SR96: 172)

After discussion, it was the consensus of Council to hold both regularly scheduled
meetings in July.

06/04/96 -23-
