Th~ rQll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarvet
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 6e
PUD-80-16-7M/PUD-80-16-11D. Providlan Bancorn
Application for a Planned Unit Development major modification and development plan
ilpproval to allow the abandonment of Morse Drive between Johnson Drive and Franklin
Drive and the construction of two (2) two-story office buildings_ totalling approximatel_v
100.000 so_.ft. on an approximately 12.31 acre site located on the southwest corner of
Frank!in Drive and Johnson Drive. Zoning for the property is PUD (Planned Unit
Development) - I/C-O (Industrial/Commercial-Office) District. (SR96: 152)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Mr. Tarver asked how many square feet of right of way was being vacated.

Mr. Swift said he would have to calculate that figure.

Mayor Tarvet declared the public hearing open.

John Hashman, 4900 Johnson Drive, representing Providian Bancorp, indicated he agreed
with the staff and Planning Commission. They are excited about this project and feel it is a
continuing commitment to the City of Pleasanton and to the approximately 1,000 employees
curren~y working here. They want to consolidate the two parcels on either side of Morse Drive
into one campus that will have many amenities such as water features, fountains, areas of
congregation, etc. Closure of Morse Drive is a safety issue to them because there will be a lot
of foot traffic back and forth. This will be a first rate campus for the employees as well as the
community.

Mr. Tarvet liked the comments about the water features and entryway to the buildings
and wondered if there was a possibility to include some kind of public art. Would Providian
work with the Civic Arts Commission?

Mr. Hashman indicated they had been discussing that already. The existing buildings
have sculptures in front and they wanted to have something to combine the sculpture feature with
the water feature. He agreed to meet with the Civic Arts Commission to talk about this.

Ms. Mohr asked if Providian was comfortable with the amount of parking?

05/21/96 -21-
