Chari Xenakis, 6192 Alisal Street, prefer that nothing happen in the area, but agreed a <br /> golf course was the best compromise. She loves the peaceful lifestyle of the area and is <br /> saddened by any increase in traffic. She did not want the road changed. <br /> <br /> Mel Jones, 976 Happy Valley Road, also spoke about the road and did not believe there <br /> was room to redesign the road without taking out half the houses. He strongly urged finding <br /> another access road to the golf course. He referred to the cost to connect to water and sewer <br /> and some of the residents do not need to connect and should not have to pay $15,000 in <br /> connection fees. He suggesting putting the road high on the Spotorno property or connecting <br /> from Independence to Highway 84 to access the golf course that would keep traffic out of Happy <br /> Valley. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tarver indicated there is not a requirement to connect to sewer or water if property <br /> owners do not need it. The policy is that they connect, but that can be changed. He also <br /> indicated the residents would no longer have to pay the County utility tax. <br /> <br /> Joseph Mendez, 6028 Alisal Street, indicated this area is in Alameda County and there <br /> are no controls on growth. There are businesses being operated in barns and he hopes the City <br /> can take care of this problem. There has been a lot of growth and traffic in the years he has <br /> lived there and he hopes the City can do something about that. He would be delighted to have <br />-- a golf course and feel it would enhance the area. He urged Council to proceed as soon as <br /> possible. <br /> <br /> Kay Ayala supported the golf course and indicated the General Plan Review Committee <br /> all agreed and had recommended that a golf course be located in the South Pleasanton area. She <br /> complimented staff on the report and the provision of information. She urged Council to <br /> continue with this. <br /> <br /> Mike Peel, 530 Dolores Place, indicated he is a real estate broker and the things that help <br /> sell Pleasanton locations are: downtown, BART, schools, and recreation facilities. Pleasanton <br /> needs a golf course and he felt the Happy Valley area was the best place. It will increase <br /> everyone's property values. He agreed staff had to be conservative on their projections because <br /> they are dealing with the taxpayers' money. <br /> <br /> Steve Jensen, 1133 Happy Valley Road, stated he was one of the land owners proposing <br /> the golf course. The land owners have made a lot of compromises on this project. He felt the <br /> land owners are not going to walt too long.
