he did not feel the tree served any purpose. He has planted redwood trees and was concerned about the aesthetic looks of his property. He offered to donate the tree to the City at the City's cost to remove it and place it somewhere else. He hoped Council would approve the removal of the tree, based on the concrete damage and the hazard caused by falling fronds on pedestrians and cars parked on the street. Mayor Tarver indicated a phone call was received from Marjan Parks who indicated the tree was unattractive and a danger. She would like it removed. There being no further speakers, the public hearing was closed. Ms. Ayala asked if the tree were pruned would it still be a hazard. Mr. Lum said if it were maintained annually the risk would be very minimal. Ms. Ayala asked Mr. Campisi to maintain the tree for approximately one year and see if that would dear up some of the problems. Then he could bring it back to Council at a later date if there are still concerns. Mayor Tarver did not feel palm trees were part of Pleasanton's heritage and hoped Council would feel the same. Because palm trees are a fast growing species he felt they were a maintenance nightmare. He believed in the ordinance but would like to direct staff to modify it in regards to different tree species. It was moved by Ms. Ayala, and seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution No. 97-124 denying the appeal of Steve Camphi thereby denying removal of a heritage tree at 4909 Foresthill Drive.
