(SR97:296)

Michael Roush presented the staff report.

Mr. Pico asked about the noticing for this issue.

Mr. Swift said the massage business and commercial businesses have been notified.

Mayor Tarver said he had a speaker card from Beverly Lazar who supported the
amendments to the Pleasanton Municipal Code and thanked staff for its hard work.

Mr. Pico asked if other healing occupations using Eastern techniques were included in
this ordinance. He was concerned about certification requirements because of the lack of
accredited schools.

Mr. Roush said meetings had been held with massage therapists to include all the types
of healing, body work and therapeutic massages. If something were to come up in the future,
the ordinance could be amended.

Mr. Pico felt the ordinance was too restrictive for people practicing these healing arts.
He felt it should be more flexible for these people.

Mayor Tarver commented that Michelle Ford, a licensed esthetician, wanted to be
included in the ordinance.

Mayor Tarver declared the public hearing open.

Michelle Ford, 4870 Mason Street, said she is a licensed esthetician and felt she should
be included in the ordinance.
