Mr. Ashton said the traffic calming committee would only come up with a broad based
plan; he felt Amanda Place is a specific issue.

Mayor Tarver said Mr. Ashton would find that everyone on the Council has a different
point of view. He said Council is very diverse in representing the community and sometimes
it has different values and beliefs. There was lengthy hearings of public testimony and
discussion by Council regarding Mirador Drive. Council believes it made an informed decision.

Mr. Ashton felt Genevieve and Amanda Place residents were not represented at these
meetings.

Ms. Michelotti said she was the voice of the residents who lived on Genevieve. She said
concerns were raised about the traffic being forced into other areas and suggested he read the
minutes from those meetings.

Mr. Ashton asked if the specific issue regarding Mirador Drive could be put to a vote
sometime in the future.

Mayor Tarver explained a Councilmember could ask to put an item on the agenda. But
he did not want to do this every time there was a 3-2 vote.

Ms. Michelotti said there could be another discussion of the item, but the decision may
not change. She understood a resident could ask for an item to be put on the agenda.

Ms. Acosta said a member of the public could raise an item in front of the Council, but
it would take three Councilmembers to vote on hearing the issue.

Ms. Ayala said she would be happy to meet with Mr. Ashton along with Ms. Dennis.

Ms. Dennis commented that the street does not support opening it at both ends and
encouraged Mr. Ashton to join the traffic calming committee.

Mr. Ashton said he would be glad to meet with Council regarding this.

Jeffrey Richardson, 6978G Dublin Meadows, Dublin, representing Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, and Tom Trainer, Nielsen Dillingham, a Pleasanton based company,
announc~xl the award of an $11 million construction contract for a laser facility.

Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, spoke about the dangers of substance abuse and
believed this included guns as well as drugs and alcohol. He would like Council to consider all
substances before taking any action on pending substance abuse.

Pleasanton City Council 9/2/97
Minutes 4
