Mr. Roush commented Mr. Faber had mentioned to him lot line adjustments.

Ms. Dennis asked if the lot line adjustment was within Pleasanton's jurisdiction or the
County' s?

Mr. Roush said it was within the County's. The adjustment will not create any more
lots, it is simply changing one lot to be larger than the other.

Staff indicated the matter would be looked into.

Bill Mellberg, 5781 Corte Libre, said he sent a letter to Council on July 30, 1997
regarding his concern about the removal of three trees at the corner of Via de los Milagros and
Valley. He would like to know what the procedure is for removing city trees and why the
public was not notified about the removal. He was dismayed that one person could make a
decision like this.

Ms. Acosta said staff is aware of the issue that Mr. Mellberg is raising and he will be
receiving a formal response as to why the trees were removed. Some trees are removed
periodically by the Parks and Recreation Department because of maintenance problems or that
the tree(s) were planted in a space too small. The policy has been not to hold public hearings
on tree removals when the trees are not heritage trees. She assured him many staff members
.... were involved in the decision and staff does not remove trees unless absolutely necessary.

Ms. Michelotti mentioned Council did receive his letter. She requested staff to set up
a process for notifying the public in the future.

Ms. Dennis asked what were the plans for replacing the trees.

Ms. Acosta said there are plans to plant smaller trees.

Ms. Michelotti asked staff to approach this with common sense and to be pro-active.

Ms. Acosta clarified the trees removed were not heritage trees. The process is different
for heritage tree removal.

Pleasanton City Council 08/05/97
Minutes 4
