had time to consider the zoning changes. Both items will come back to Council for a second
reading sometime in September. If there is an interest in reconsideration by one of the
Councilmembers that could certainly happen.

Kimberly Rowland, 3650 Locke Court, said she supported the proposed ordinance. She
said Pleasanton is a family community. Pleasanton should not be the place to purchase cheap
hand guns. She commented that four Councilmembers showed its support by voting in favor of
this ordinance. But she felt three of the Councilmembers were taking the easy way out. The
residents of Pleasanton elected you to make hard decisions. If the residents cannot trust Council
to stand its ground on controversial issues, then why is Council needed? She said Council has
taken away her ability to referend the decision by turning it over to the voters. Ensuring public
safety is one of the main responsibilities of the Council. She is in favor of putting the ordinance on the ballot, but if
something can be agreed upon, then it would not have to be voted on.

Herbert Marshall, 3202 Clifford Circle, wanted to compliment Council on the wisdom
it exhibited bringing this ordinance to the voters. He asked for clarification on the part of the
ordinance that stated minors must be accompanied by an adult when entering a place of business
that sold handguns. Would this include places such as Walmart? Would teenagers lose their
jobs?

Mayor Tarver clarified that that section applied only if the sale of handguns is the
primary business.

Roger Gathers, 1212 Harvest Road, commented that some people are complaining about
.-- this issue going to the vote of the people.
