Mr. Thiel said he would make the video available to Council. He mentioned the group
has created a web site and some of the data that has been collected can be seen there. Their
goal is to make this data available to the entire community.

Ms. Michelotti asked how far the class had gone.

Mr. Thiel said because of time constraints the students are only allowed to go from the
Main Street Bridge to the railroad trestle. If the students specifically asked, then they were
allowed to go further under supervision.

Ms. Dennis commented there are a number of agencies that would love to hear about the
damage. She said if the information gets too old, then nothing can be done. It is very important
that the proper agencies get notified.

Mr. Thiel said the study is in an infancy state. His goal is to establish an outside
laboratory which would allow students to experience things first hand.

Mr. Wilcox commended the previous speaker on all his work. He commented the section
between First Street/railroad trestle and the Main Street Bridge is privately owned.

There being no further testimony the public hearing was dosed.

Ms. Michelotti asked staff if the issue on the sound wall had been resolved?

Mr. Higdon said yes it had.

Ms. Dennis asked if the specifications could be written to include environmental
restrictions?

Mr. Higdon said the specifications had already been written to include special
requirements for the environment. The contract would be awarded to the low bidder. Through
the whole construction process the inspectors will be on site overseeing the job to make sure
the specifications were being followed.

Mayor Tarver asked if there would be a pre-bid conference. He strongly urged the City
to have a pre-bid conference to make sure the contractors were aware of the specific
requirements.

Mr. Higdon said there would be a pre-bid conference.

Mr. Pico asked if the City had reimbursement agreements signed by other property
owners that are affected. Specifically, the property owner on the south side of Stanley and First
Street.

Pleasanton City Council 07/15/97
Minutes 14
