Aleia Vam Dike, 2849 Whitney Drive, being a patron of the nearby dance studio, did
not want the Bonfare Market.

Dan Ayala, 3551 Norton Way, said many times he comes home late at night and likes
the idea of having a convenience store five minutes away. He agreed with Ms. Callaban that
the demographics for Pleasanton would result in a nice store.

Jane Miceli, 2985 Amoroso Court, said she was concerned about the hours of operation.
She said the other markets were not that far away. She said when the Vintage Hill Market was
in operation people did not patronize it. She feels the Bonfare Market is just looking for liquor
sales.

Susan Cambra, 1255 Hearst Drive, said she also was opposed to the project for the
previously mentioned concerns. She considered Pleasanton's demographics similar to Fremont's
demographics. The store in Fremont did not look as if it was maintained and she did not want
this in Pleasanton.

Nora Sabhlok, 4129 Grant Court, said she was opposed to the sale of alcohol and tobacco
within close proximity of an elementary school. She did not like the late night hours. She
urged Council to disapprove the application.

Richard Shaughnessy, 3231 Vineyard, said he was in support of the proposed project.
He visited the Castro Valley Bonfare Market and found it to be clean and well stocked. In
addition there was some concerns to signs, but he failed to notice any signs. He said the
Tae-Kwa-Do being taught at the Mission Hills Center is surrounded by a liquor store, Sunshine
Saloon and a 7-11. He felt people were being paranoid about what could happen. He believed
a solution could be worked out.

Wilma King, 3237 Touriga Drive, said she was opposed to the proposed project.

Bruce Fryman, 4155 Casterson Court, presented Council with more petitions and an
article out of the newspaper. He encouraged Council to vote no.

Debra Barker, 5018 Blackbird Way, said about two years ago the proposed site was
looked at for a fitness center with hours of operation starting at 6 a.m. At that time staff said
opening at 6 a.m. would disrupt the neighborhood. She was surprised to see staff support the
proposed Bonfare Market. She supported the Planning Commission policy not to have alcohol
sales in neighborhoods. With the Cowboy Country Club in close proximity to the proposed
market it would facilitate problems. If approved, the proposed project should have some
restrictions.

Heather Duffy, 1014 Zinfandel Court, said Mr. Capland was quoted saying in two
newspapers that the neighborhood was stupid and misinformed. She said the pictures presented

Pleasanton City Council 5/06/97
Minutes 10
