Janet Sears, 3857 Stone Pointe Way, asked staff to verify the number of students and
what would happen when ELI wants to increase this number?

Zack Margolm, 4334 Fai~ands Drive, said that he chooses to send his child to ELI and
there is a significant need if ELI is willing to spend the money to build the school. He was in
support of this project. He did not feel there was a safety issue. Schools add property value
to homes. There are two hundred families that want to send their children to this school and
it is unfair for a small group of people to decide that what is best for them is not best for the
neighborhood.

Mayor Tarver asked for a show of hands in support of the project.

(There were many.)

Kathy Turner Meyer, 321 Adams Way, said this issue has turned from technical to
emotional. The technical issues can be dealt with. Pleasanton is a community with many things
to share and ELI is providing a service.

Ms. Michelotti asked if people take advantage of flex time in dropping off and picking
up children.

Ms. Meyer said her family takes advantage of the flex time.

Mayor Tarver said he would stop taking speaker cards at this point.

Kevin Reese, 3872 Stone Pointe Way, said the issue is placement. There will eventually
be three schools within close proximity to each other. He would like to see an access off
Stoneridge Drive. He did not feel the Negative Declaration addressed all the issues involved.

Robert Horton, 2708 Golden Road, felt the issue is who benefits and who loses. The
immediate neighbor has a stronger interest than the average resident of Pleasanton. No facility
built in a town will win the support of the immediate neighbors. But part of the bargain of
living in the City is that you accept the possibility of development. The school could be built
elsewhere but the two hundred families would drive to get there, thus causing more traffic
congestion. This is not the answer to the problem.

Sophie Chantrenne, 432 Los Rios Court, has her two children in ELI. Things happen
before six o'clock at night. Many children in the third grade and under cannot even read and
private schools help get over this. Schools should not be built in the middle of nowhere with
high walls to close out the noise and hide the children.

Kathy Nolan, 11721 Bloomington Way, Dublin, said ELI was the best facility around.
She wanted to comment on speeding. There is no reason to endanger herself or anyone else to

Pleasanton City Council 9 3/18/97
Minutes
