Mr. Cordtz said yes and no one had received a notice.

Susan Garcia, 625 Main Street, Chair for the Promotions/Marketing Committee of the
Pleasanton Downtown Association, acknowledged Mr. Cordtz's concerns. What the Pleasanton
Downtown Association is trying to do is bring a positive and favorable image to the downtown
area. She said the Committee is focusing on the businesses in the downtown revitalization area
and not bringing in outside vendors. The reason for these events is to provide the community
with an activity during the middle of the week and not just on the weekends.

Ms. Ayala understood no alcohol would be allowed on the streets.

Ms. Garcia said that is correct. She said these events are meant to be family oriented.
She said the name could be changed to reflect family awareness rather than "party".

Ms. Michelotti asked if these events were similar to the "Taste of Downtown" event?
Ms. Garcia is hoping businesses will participate in offering samples.

Craig Scharton, 235 Main Street, Pleasanton Downtown Association Executive Director,
said the goal is to create another community event so that the residents might enjoy the
downtown area.

Ms. Ayala supported new ideas and felt this was worth the conceptual support but that
the residents in neighborhood needed to be surveyed. She felt this would be a great way for
non-profit organizations to raise money and that it would support the downtown businesses and
restaurants.

Ms. Michelotti said the residents needed to understand this is a mid-week event. She said
it would be great to have the downtown merchants stay open later, especially in the summer,
for those that like to meander before and after dinner. She said sometimes on the weekends
there is more than one event going on at a time. She encouraged the Committee to work with
the neighborhoods in the downtown area to get their support.

Ms. Dennis supported the concept. She hoped the Committee will consider the concerns
expressed by the residents and develop a program of events that the neighborhoods could live
with.

Ms. Acosta said notices were sent out to residents within 1000 feet of the downtown
area, as well as all the businesses in the downtown area. She said a number of calls were
received both for and against the events.

Mayor Tarver thought this was a great idea. He supported the conceptual report, but
agreed the impact to the residents needed to be minimized.

Pleasanton City Council 6 6/2/98
Minutes
