Ms. Dennis did not blame the applicant for this problem, because if the applicant had
come forward with a residential project, staff would have denied the application. Since there
will be substantial changes to this proposal she felt it should be denied.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the project is denied, can the applicant come back with another
design/application?

Mr. Swift said this denial does not affect a new development plan that is designed
differently than this proposal.

Ms. Michelotti suggested staff look at the greater area and specifically look at the overall
plan and encourage everyone to participate and to be aware of the impacts.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico and Mayor Tarver.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Ms. Ayala wanted to go down the list that staff had created.

Ms. Dennis did not object, but the list was created by the Council's input.

Mayor Tarver said there has not been a meeting to review the Downtown Specific Plan
and there needs to be a meeting to address the issues.

Ms. Dennis said the list is long because there are many issues that need to be reconciled.
There needs to be a wider discussion. She is concerned with planning at the podium.

Ms. Michelotti wanted to determine the best use for this specific area.

Ms. Dennis would like the streetscape looked at.

Harry Spiliotopoulos, 357 Ray Street, said he owned the victorian house that is next to
the property in question. He had questions regarding the proposal and design. He said he never
received notice of the Council meeting.

Ms. Ayala said she would visit him and show him the plans that were denied.

Pleasanton City Council 17 09/01/98
Minutes
