applicant to work with the neighbors to try and come up with a plan that would work and if not, <br />then Council should readdress the Specific Plan for the downtown area. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala asked if it would be helpful to go through the list. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pico said his opinion is to look at developing the land as residential. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver said he has not heard anyone in support of this project. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Mr. Pico, to uphold the Planting <br />Commissions decision to deny the application for a Planned Unit Development rezoning and <br />development plan approval for the construction of a 26,045 sq.~. office/retail building at <br />325 Ray Street, AP-98-09 (Appeal of Case PUD-98-05). <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala asked if Council would be giving direction to staff on how to proceed. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver said Council can give suggestions and directions. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti asked what type of residential use did Mr. Pico believe this property <br />should have. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pico said that is not the issue before Council tonight. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti said if the property is designated medium density residential it will have <br />a greater hnpact on the Walnut Street residents. It will block out their view and add traffic. <br />Therefore she wanted to leave the door open for commercial use, to have the building farther <br />away from the residents. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver reiterated again that is why the Downtown Specific Plan needs .to be done <br />and do what the community thinks is best. Studies need to be done. He did not want to rush <br />into making a decision. His direction to staff is to do the Downtown Specific Plan update. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti said a Downtown Specific Plan has already been done. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver said it is ten years old. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti does not want something pushed through that the residents will not be <br />happy with and asked if this project can be denied without prejudice so that something else can <br />come in its place. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver said his motion is to deny the project as is and the applicant is free to <br />come up with something else. <br /> <br />Pleasanton City Council 16 09/01/98 <br />Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />
