level. The number goes up to 70 or 80 percent for materials ordered for the younger children
at the school sites. She was particularly impressed at the outreach opportunities that the library
offers through its programming. She mentioned numerous opportunities for youths in the library
and felt the Library Commission should be on the committee.

Terry Roberts, 7273 Tulipwood Circle, agreed with the previous speaker and would like
the Library Commission added to the list. He felt the number on the committee made no
difference. He would like to see more encouragement and parmership between the School and
the Pleasanton librarians. He said there are daily operational issues that should also be discussed
and that the libraries should be utilized to the maximum.

Dom Summa, 5816 Corte Margarita, said it was good to see the parmership between the
School District and the City of Pleasanton. He concurred with the previous comments and felt
there was tremendous opportunities for more extensive partnering. He encouraged the Council
and School Board to consider letting the Library Commission be part of the committee.

Carolyn Jennings, 3199 Waymouth Court, said one of the important things about the
Youth Master Plan is that it has the potential to involve a huge number of volunteers, community
members of all types, district and city personnel, and all of the youth in the community.
Because of this it is important to understand the need for each of the related service groups to
be overlapping and interrelated in the process of the Youth Master Plan. The philosophy behind
the Steering Committee is to have a group that will buy in and have a commitment for the Youth
Master Plan, no matter how large or small.

There were no further speakers.

Ms. Michelotti would like to have individuals who have dual roles chosen for the
committee in order to utilize as many of the Youth Collaborative members as possible.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, seconded by Ms. McGovern, to adopt a committee of 21
members, reduce the members at large to four and add the Library Commission and let
the individual groups make the appointments.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers- Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, and Pico.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Mayor Tarver
ABSTAIN: None

Joint Meeting 5 06/04/98
School Board/City Council
Minutes
