project on County property.

Ms. Dennis felt there were some attractive things about the Fairgrounds location both for
the train station and commuters. She would like to see a station at Bernal and Valley Avenue
because there are a lot of people in her neighborhood that commute to Silicon Valley. Her goal
for the temporary station would be to try and mitigate the impacts, but she wanted to
aggressively look at alternative solutions. Also she felt living within walking distance to a train
station might have a positive impact on property values. It depended on how the station was in
relation to the neighborhood. She would like the City to manage the parking lot and station, as
well as looking for alternative sites. She did not want to pick an alternative station just because
it was not close to a residential area. People should be close to public transportation. She
believed this station would add to the quality of life for the City of Pleasanton.

Ms. Ayala felt the citizens would be more comfortable if the City were managing the
station.

Ms. Dennis agreed. She wanted to go the extra mile to help make the train station more
acceptable, even if that meant putting in more trash receptacles, security cameras, etc.

Mr. Lum said at this point the City needed to work with CMA to see if it can up with
additional funding. Then the City can monitor the area to ensure that everything is being taken
care in a manner that is appropriate. If there are problems then what has been suggested could
be reviewed at that time.

Ms. Michelotti understood that CMA would provide additional security.

Mr. Pico asked if there was funding for soundwalls.

Mr. Lum said no.

Ms. Dennis asked if there were any provisions for bike lockers.

Mr. Lum said yes.

Mayor Tarver asked for public testimony.

Stacy Mortinson, Manager for the ACE project, said she was here tonight to ask for
Council's approval to establish a train station for initial ACE service to the City of Pleasanton.
She said there will be significant interest as more people in the Tri-Valley area realize the
benefit. The ridership estimates are growing; initially it was estimated at 1200 daily trips but
the numbers are increasing. She said Pleasanton is now part of a very complex interregional

Pleasanton City Council 4/7/98
Minutes

19
