The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, and Pico.
NOES: Mayor Tarver
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

There was a break at 8:55 p.m.

The meeting reconvened at 9:05 p.m.

Item 6c
AP-98-01 (Appeal of Z-97-310) St. Elizabeth Seton Parish
Appeal of the Planning Commission's decision approving an application for design review
to construct an approximately 14,725 sq.ft. addition to the St. Elizabeth Seton Parish
chapel and a parking lot expansion of 1.8 acres. Zoning for the property is A
(Agricultural) District. (SR98:85)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Mayor Tarver declared the public hearing open.

John Ferguson, 4485 Bowen Street, asked that the entrance be moved to the east side or
move it to Stoneridge. He requested that an old walnut tree be removed, which would give him
more space to the north. He had no objection to the church expansion, school, or parking lot;
he was just asking for a little relief. On Sunday mornings there will be considerable cars turning
into the parking lot which would only be 25 feet from his property.

Ms. Ayala asked how long he had lived at this address and if he had looked at the
General Plan for that area.

Mr. Ferguson said he has lived there since July 1985. He said he looked at the General
Plan and in 1985 there was no indication of a school going in or an approved driveway. It was
explained by staff that a driveway could be off of Bowen and Alexander, but that would have
traffic going in front of his house. That would be worse. He was aware that there was
eventually going to be something built there but he never thought there would be a driveway 25
feet from his property.

Ms. Ayala asked if he felt the driveway had been an improvement from the original plan?

Pleasanton City Council 4/7/98
Minutes

15
