Ms. Ayala asked if the School District had been involved and if it concurred with the
solutions.

Mr. van Gelder said the School District has been involved but as yet no recommendation
had come forth from the District.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the School District was in concurrence with the placement of the
crosswalk?

Mr. van Gelder said yes.

Mr. Mullins said the principal of Amador concurs with Mr. Mullin's proposal. He
respectfully disagreed with staffs recommendation. He believed he had more experience in the
circulation pattern because he regularly drives the area. He felt the School Board and the City
needed to work together to fix the problem.

Ms. Acosta said if Council was inclined to approve the proposal, then during the time
period it would take to get a contract and before the signal was installed, a solution could be
worked out with the School District.

Mr. Pico asked what the projected construction date was?

Mr. Lum said it would go to bid sometime in April, with construction shortly thereafter,
to be completed sometime in August.

Mr. Pico felt there was adequate time before the signal would be constructed to work it
out with the School District.

Ms. Michelotti would like to see only one tree removed at this time. She asked if it was
possible to reconfigure the signal so the tree in that location would not have to be removed. She
supported the widening of the driveway and exploring other alternatives for the Amador parking
lot.

Ms. Dennis concurred with Ms. Michelotti in moving the signal away from the tree so
it would be more visible.

Ms. Ayala asked if the trees by Jensen could be trimmed radically to try and improve the
site distance, rather than removing trees?

Mr. Lum said the tree trunks were primarily the problem.

Pleasanton City Council 3/03/98
Minutes 9
