Ms. Bates said 13 1/2 feet high.

Lynne Baer, Arts Consultant, said the recommendation was made after a lengthy and
detailed selection process which narrowed it down to five finalists and ultimately to Albus by
Ms. Bates. She recognized the Centennial Park Public Art Selection Committee for its efforts.
She described other aspects of the design.

Vice Mayor Dennis asked for public testimony.

David Wright, 5331 Northway Road, Civic Arts Commissioner, strongly recommended
that Council accept the art piece. He read something about the three fold legs holding the piece
up. In ancient Greek tradition the piece was considered a receptacle for the magic forces of the
universe and what is the sun, but magic. He felt it would be a wonderful learning experience
to bring children to. He thought it was a beautiful piece. He hoped Council would vote to
approve it. He thanked all of those involved in the selection process.

Barbara Van Slyke, 5755 San Antonio Street, said she participated on the selection
committee. She said the art piece was not her first choice, but it became better and better as
problems were discussed about the other pieces. She felt the senior citizens will really enjoy
it.

There was no further public testimony.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, and seconded by Ms. Ayala, to adopt Resolution No.
98-15, approving the placement of Albus at Centennial Park and approving an additional
allocation of $5,000 from the General Fund to cover this project.

Vice Mayor Dennis said she was very enthusiastic about the art piece. She felt
Pleasanton has been capturing light in very beautiful ways and this piece would enhance that
process.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Michelotti, Pico and Vice Mayor Dennis.
NOES: None
AI~SENT: Mayor Tarver
ABSTAIN: None

Pleasanton City Council 3/03/98
Minutes 14
