Ms. Ayala felt the traffic signal at Del Valle and Main Street would help with the high
school traffic.

Ms. Dennis asked when the preschool would open.

Ms. McIntosh said in January 1999.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the agreement would include maps of the preferred route.

Ms. McIntosh said yes.

Dan Mitchum, 3158 Randick Court, wanted to thank staff for its effort and for separating
the two issues. He said the Church is making sure that there is safe passage to and from the
Church.

Barry Craner, 7025 Cone Blanca, said the facilities at the Church are very good and the
parking drop off and pick up is off the street. He felt that the Traffic Calming Committee would
address the issues fairly. He asked Council to approve the application for the day care center.

Steve McGrogan, 4635 Fall Court, indicated that the notices he received were sent to
those who lived within I000 feet. He said the Church is a beautiful facility and felt honored that
it would be used during the week for a preschool. He agreed with Ms. Klinko about her
concern, but he felt not all the cars would go down her street. He thanked staff for the traffic
signal on Del Valle.

Ms. Michelotti indicated a school study is being done to try and encourage carpooling
to Walnut Grove School that might help with the traffic issue.

There being no further speakers, the public hearing was closed.

Mayor Tarver wanted to see the situation on Harvest Road resolved to the neighbors' and
Council's satisfaction. He understood that stop signs have been installed, but more needs to be
done to slow people down on the curve. He hoped through the traffic calming process staff can
come up with other alternatives to make the residents along Harvest Road feel that the problem
has been solved before another application is approved for that location. He understood that
there was a need for child care and that the church is under-utilized. He doubted that the
closure of Harvest Road would prove to be supportable during a public process. He said the
solution to the problem needs to be studied more to determine what that solution is in order to
remove the concerns of the neighbors. He would like to condition the motion to satisfy the
people on Harvest Road with whatever traffic calming devices are needed.

Pleasanton City Council 27 08/18/98
Minutes
