Ms. Klinko said the house behind her house is on Del Valle. She was not discussing that
comer, she was talking about her children walking across the street to the houses. She showed
on the map where her children's friends live and how her children cross the street.

Ms. Ayala asked why they couldn't cross at the comer with the stop sign.

Ms. Klinko said she would not let her children cross at that comer because of the people
who do not stop for the stop sign.

Mayor Tarver appreciated her concern and the interest in the safety of her children and
the idea that Harvest Road is unsafe based on the configuration and actions taken by this Council
in the past have not satisfied you and that the only way to make it safe is to close the street.
He said he has asked that the process regarding the closure of Harvest Road be done through
another public process and notify everybody that needed to be notified. He said a public hearing
will be held about the closing of Harvest Road, where everybody's point of view is received
before Council makes a decision. He said the closure of Harvest Road would not be heard this
evening. He understood that Ms. Klinko appealed the day care center because she did not
believe any more traffic should be added to that area until the Harvest Road issue is resolved.

Ms. Klinko said when she was at the Planning Commission meeting regarding the day
care center it was recommended that Harvest Road be temporarily closed. She appealed because
she needed to make sure that before any more traffic goes to the day care, her street, cars, and
children are safe. If this day care opens as recommended, she would like Harvest Road studied.
She said the preschool is going to increase the level of danger that Harvest Road is already going
through. She is appealing to ensure that everyone works together.

Mayor Tarver understood she was speaking against the day care center if temporarily or
otherwise Harvest Road is not closed because she believed it was endangering her neighborhood.
He said the closure of Harvest Road has been separated from the day care center

Ms. Dennis understood what the Planning Commission did and what her concerns are,
but how could a street be studied that is closed.

Ms. Klinko said the purpose of closing the street was to answer the question of where
the traffic would go if Harvest Road was not available. She invited the Council to visit her
home and watch the traffic~

Ms. Ayala felt what added to the problem is the high school traffic and the cars that are
parked on the street. If the that portion of the problem were eliminated that might help with the
site problems. She said the City can work with the School District in resolving that issue.

Pleasanton City Council 25 08/18/98
Minutes
