Item 6b
SP-98-02, City of Pleasanton
Application to modify the text of the Pleasanton Downtown Specific Plan by deleting the
recommendation for the realignment of St. John Street and Ray Street. Zoning for the
property is C-C (Central Commercial) District, Core Area Overlay District, and Downtown
Revitalization District. (SR98:200)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Ms. Michelotti undersWod this would not preclude the widening of the left hand turn lane
from Main Street onto Ray Street.

Mr. Swift said it is still available under this configuration. Removing the alignment of
the street as pan of the Specific Plan does not preclude the City Council from taking actions to
modify that traffic signal, modify the signal phasing, or widening the streets to make the turning
movements easier.

Mayor Tarver declared the public hearing open.

Mike Madden, 5955 Coronado Lane, supported staff's recommendation and updated
Council on his proposal to build a 37-room hotel on the City's vacant St. Vincent DePaul site.

Ms. Michelotti asked if there would be easements between the two property owners.

Mr. Madden said yes. Staff wanted the other property owner to abandon the driveway
coming out on St. John Street and then have the driveway for his project go through. He is
working with the other property owner so there is only one driveway coming out onto St. John
Street.

Ms. Michelotti commended Mr. Madden on his cooperation in working with the other
property owner.

Ms. Ayala felt the hotel would be a beautiful addition to the downtown area.

Them being no further testimony the public hearing was closed.

Pleasanton City Council 11 08/04/98
Minutes
