Ms. Michelotti asked about the material for the roof. She understood the golf course
committee was trying to save money but if they wanted to look at different materials (perhaps
a step up) it was okay.

Mr. Powerton said it was easy to have alternate specifications on the materials during the
design process.

Mayor Tarver asked the rationale for the four walls around the seating area in the
restaurant.

Mr. Powerton indicated on a slide that the tan areas will be an open area. To be more
cost effective with the air conditioning, the design has all the corridors on the outside of the
building. He said the restaurant can be separated or shut down to allow for different activities.
There is also a way to arrive at the building and go onto the golf course without having to go
around the building.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the dining room could be utilized by more people if the weather
does not permit people to be outside.

Mr. Powerton said the dining room is set up with low dividers to serve a few people to
a number of people. He said the perimeter wall could be moved to enlarge the dining room area
in the future. The dining room is designed to be very flexible.

Mayor Tarver would like to see a better facility given what will be spent on the
infrastructure to serve the golf course. He felt the facility was being restricted to tournament
type seating. He had a vision that this golf clubhouse was going to be outstanding.

Ms. Michelotti felt the number of seats is adequate for a tournament. But she also felt
it needed to be able to accommodate more.

Ms. Dennis felt it was tough to make a large facility work all the time. She liked the
aspect of a small facility with the flexibility to be larger if needed. She agreed with having
choices regarding the materials. She had a positive impression of the clubhouse.

Karen Foss, Chair of the Golf Course Committee, hoped the golf course would be around
for a long time. She believed the golf course was a good community resource and investment
and has the greatest chance for cost recovery. She explained the cost of the golf course and why
the costs have escalated. She said the community will have ownership in this project. She
anticipated to break ground on time.

Mayor Tarver asked for public testimony.

Pleasanton City Council 25 07/07/98
Minutes
