BISSELL& KARN. INC.
Job #8704139.40
May 5, 1988
Page 2

This scope of work is based on pre-ordering the new pum~s in order to
complete the project as cjuickly as ~ossSble. Depending on the results of
the first task, this may or may not be desirable. If the urgency of the
project is reduced, the total project cost could be reduced by not
pre-ordering the pum~s.

SCOPE OF WORK

Task I. Test Existing Pu~ Station.

The impetus for teloration and replacement of the Foothill #1 Booster
Station is that, when Sycamore Reservoir comes on line, it will be desirable
to switch the main in Foothill Road between Sunol Boulevard and Bernal
Avenue to the Eower Zone. When this is done, the available suction head for
Foothill #1 will be reduced by about 30 feet, which may or may not cause
pump operating problems. In this task, we would assist the City in conduct-
ing a test to determine how much the pump suction head can be reduced and
continue satisfactory operation. This will determine whether or not the
main in Foothill Road can be switched to the LoWer Zone before the new pum~
station is completed. This in turn will determine how critical it is to
complete the design and construction of the new pump station.

Task II. Pre-Design.

Sizing of this pump station has been addressed in the Billside Pressure
Zones Master Plan an~ several letter reports by the developer's consultant.
However, there are some discrepancies in the numbers of dwelling units
between the various reports. These need to be resolved in order to make the
final determination as to the size of the pump station. Similarly, there
are a number of other design criteria that should be established prior to
starting final design.

The purpose of this task would be to establish all necessary design criteria
for the proposed pump station and to select a specific site. We would also
review the desirability of using the existing pump in the new pump station.
All of the relevant design criteria would be su~aerized in a brief report
and reviewed with City staff, along w~th the preliminary layout, prior to
initiating final design. Specific tasks would include:

o Site selection.

o Review of projected landuse and determination of the necessary flow
and head recjuirements for the pumps.

- o Establish telemetry and control requirements.

o Determine sizing of all components of the pum~ station and
connecting piping.

WDP.8.27
