technical and artistic resources and they should be engaged to make downtown Pleasanton a landmark <br />destination for such art. Main Street is already defined by its attractive and people-friendly <br />environment, adding an additional layer of visual material will build upon existing strengths. <br />Media labs and programs exist at high schools and community colleges and such resources can be <br />tapped to bring fresh ideas into the public sphere. Indeed, the prevalence of media tools in most homes <br />is producing a generation of young and sophisticated users and producers who are ideal participants and <br />audience members for these programs. <br />Audiences: Regular visitors to downtown will be joined by those coming especially to see the media <br />and light artworks. <br />Budget: <br />Individual project costs will vary between $5,000 - $50,000. Fees to artists for exhibiting existing work <br />on equipment provided by Pleasanton can be $500 and up. <br />Timeframe for Construction: <br />Project development: six to twelve months <br />On-site preparation: one to three weeks <br />Site requirements/constraints: <br />• evening hours <br />• easy access to utility connections <br />• locations to safely place and install equipment <br />• locations that have feasible surfaces to receive projections <br />• available storefronts and store interiors <br />• cooperation of building tenants and owners <br />16 <br />
