Upon completion <br /> of five (5) years of service, every employee shall <br /> thereafter accumulate sick leave at a rate of eight <br /> (8.0) hours per month. No employee shall accumulate <br /> more than one-thousand, four-hundred forty (1,440.0) <br /> hours of sick leave. An employee may be allowed a sick <br /> leave deficit of twenty-four (24) hours beyond that <br /> actually earned. Employees on leave of absence with <br /> pay in lieu of temporary disability payments, pursuant <br /> to Section 4850 of the Labor Code, shall accumulate <br /> sick leave during said leave of absence, in accordance <br /> with the provisions of this section. <br /> <br />6.5(2) Fire Battalion Chiefs Sick Leave Accrual <br /> <br /> Fire Battalion Chiefs, during their first year of <br /> employment, earn sick leave at the rate of eleven and <br /> two-tenths (11.2) hours for each month of service. <br /> Upon successfully completing his/her first year of <br /> employment, each new employee shall receive five hun- <br /> dred thirty-seven and six-tenths (537.6) hours of sick <br /> leave credit in addition to that earned during proba- <br /> tion. Upon completion of five (5) years of service, <br /> every employee shall thereafter accumulate sick leave <br /> at the rate of eleven and two-tenths (11.2) hours per <br /> month. No employee shall accumulate more than two <br /> thousand sixteen hours (2,016) of sick leave. An <br /> employee may be allowed a sick leave deficit of thirty- <br /> three and six-tenths (33.6) hours beyond that actually <br /> earned. Employees on leave of absence with pay in lieu <br /> of temporary disability payments pursuant to Section <br /> 4850 of the Labor Code, shall accumulate sick leave <br /> during said leave of absence, in accordance with the <br /> provisions of this section. <br /> <br />6.5(3) Sick Leave Usaqe <br /> <br /> All full-time management and confidential employees <br /> shall be eligible for sick leave with pay. Sick leave <br /> shall not be considered a right which an employee may <br /> use at his/her discretion, but shall be allowed only as <br /> follows: <br /> <br /> 1) In cases of necessity and actual personal sickness <br /> or disability of the employee; <br /> 2) For medical and dental appointments of the employ- <br /> ee, at the discretion of the immediate supervi- <br /> sor; <br /> 3) For the care of or attendance upon the sickness or <br /> disability of members of his/her immediate family <br /> or for bereavement because of the death of a <br /> member of his/her immediate family.
