A probationary employee may incur a forty <br /> (40)-hour deficit in vacation after six (6) months <br /> of full-time, satisfactory service. Fire <br /> battalion chiefs may incur a fifty-six (56)-hour <br /> deficit. <br /> <br /> 6.4(2) Vacation Accumulation <br /> <br /> The maximum vacation hours management or confidential <br /> employees may accumulate by their anniversary date <br /> shall not exceed twice their annual vacation entitle- <br /> ment. If employment circumstances are such that an <br /> employee is not permitted to take all or a portion of <br /> his/her vacation, the employee may request permission <br /> to carry over said unused vacation to the next year. <br /> <br /> 6.4(3) Vacation Schedule <br /> <br /> The times during a calendar year at which an employee <br /> may take his/her vacation shall be determined by the <br /> department director with due regard for the wishes of <br /> the employee and particular regard for the needs of the <br /> service. <br /> <br /> 6.4(4) Vacation Pay <br /> <br /> Management and confidential employees shall be paid for <br /> all accrued vacation leave earned prior to the effec- <br /> tive date of termination. Such compensation for earned <br /> vacation shall be paid to the employee in one lump sum <br /> in a final check. Annually, on his or her anniversary, <br /> management and confidential employees may be paid for <br /> five (5) days of accrued vacation. To be eligible for <br /> payment, the employee must have used all of his/her <br /> prior year's annual vacation entitlement and have a <br /> vacation balance of at least five (5) days after <br /> subtraction of all hours of vacation accrued for the <br /> forthcoming year. <br /> <br />Section 6.5 Sick Leave <br />6.5(1) Sick Leave Accrual <br /> <br /> Management and confidential employees, except fire <br /> battalion chiefs, shall during their first year of <br /> employment earn sick leave at the rate of eight (8.0) <br /> hours for each month of service.
