20.08.049 CHAPTER 3-System Components - amended Section 3-3 Piping is amended: Section 3-3 is amended to delete all references to ferrous metal pipe. Fer- rous metal pipe is not permitted. Section 3-6 Alarms is amended to read: Local water flow alarms shall be provided on all sprinkler systems. Water flow alarms and valve tamper shall be connected to an Underwrit- ers Laboratory (UL) listed Central Station Service under the following conditions: (a) All buildings with eight (8) or more units or, (b) When there are four (4) or more buildings per complex or, (c) When there are more than sixty- four (64) units per complex. CHAPTER 4-System Design - amended Section 4-1.2.1. Number of Design Sprinklers and Water Demand is amended to read: The number of design sprinklers shall be as follows: (a) Standard for One (1) to Four (4) Dwelling Units. The number of design sprinklers shall include all sprinklers within a compartment to a maximum of three (3) fire sprinklers based on the Un- derwriters Laboratory (UL) listing for residential fire sprinklers with a minimum flow rate of 0.05 gallons per minute per square foot. This is based on the UL 1626 residential fire sprinkler product standard. When the number of design sprinklers is less than three (3) for a compartment, the design shall include a five (5) gallon per minute domestic use simulta- neous with sprinkler flow per unit. This domestic use shall be calculated at the base of riser. Pilot sprinklers shall be provided in the attic and between floors where floor/ceiling assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. Pilot sprinklers shall be 212 degree F, '/16 inch orifice. Pilot sprinklers shall be located at maximum 30 feet centers (Maximum 15 feet from outside walls) and shall be located at all heat and fire sources including furnaces, hot water heaters, above kitchen ranges, etc. Fire sprinklers in garages shall be 200 degree F, quick response, '/16 inch orifice (K=4.0 to 4.5) with a maximum spacing of 130 to 150 square feet per sprinkler. (b) Standard for Mid-Sized Multi- Family Residential Sprinkler Systems for Five (5) to Fifteen (15) Dwelling Units in Residential Structures Not Exceeding twelve thousand square feet (12,000 square feet) shall be as follows: 704-3 (Pleasanton April 2003)
