Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies. UBC Section 902 amended - Stan- dards of Ouality Section 902 1. Fire-Extinauishin~ System Section 902 1.-1.2 is amended to read: UBC Standard 9-3 is amended to adopt National Fire Protection Asso- ciation (NFPA) 13D-1999 Edition. This Standard includes installation of fire sprinkler systems in buildings up to fifteen (15) units and up to a maximum of twelve thousand (12,000) square feet maximum. Chapter 1-General Information amended - Section 1-1 Scope is amended to read: This standard describes the require- ments for the mechanical and perfor- mance properties of the sprinkler itself. It also describes the require- ments for the installation of the complete sprinkler system for resi- dential occupancies up to fifteen (15) units or twelve thousand square feet (12,000) maximum. Chapter 1-General Information - amended ' Section 1-5.4 is amended to read: Section 1-5.4 All systems shall be tested for leakage at 200 psi for two (2) hours. Chapter 1-General Information - added Section 1-5.6 is added to read: Section 1-5.6 All sprinkler piping shall be either non-ferrous metallic pipe (copper, or brass) or CPVC. All piping above the flow switch should be protected by sheet rock or ply- wood. Note: No ferrous (black iron, iron or galvanized) pipe is permitted. Fire sprinkler riser check valves shall be approved by the City and Fire Prevention Bureau. CHAPTER 3-System Components - amended Section 3-1.1 Valves and Drains is amended: Section 3-1.1 Exception No. 1 (a) amended to read: (a) To a Underwriters Laboratory (UL) listed Central Station Service.
