20.08.048 <br />3. All buildings residential or com- <br />mercial over 5 minutes response <br />time, as determined by the Fire chief, <br />from a City fire station. <br />4. Any structure in any area or loca- <br />tion determined by the Fire Chief to <br />be a high fire hazard. High fire haz- <br />ard area shall be defined as those <br />areas beyond five minutes driving <br />time of fire apparatus from the fire <br />station serving those particular dis- <br />tricts; or areas determined by the <br />Fire Chief to be either high hazard <br />areas or extreme hazard areas based <br />on steepness of slope and/or fuel <br />loadings from combustible plant <br />materials as set forth in the Safety <br />Element of the General Plan. <br />5. In every story or basement of all <br />buildings when the floor area ex- <br />ceeds 1,500 square feet (139.4 m2) <br />and there is not provided at least 20 <br />square feet (1.86 m2) of opening <br />entirely above the adjoining ground <br />level in each 50 lineal feet (15 240 <br />mm) or fraction thereof of exterior <br />wall in the story or basement on at <br />least one side of the building. Open- <br />ings shall have a minimum dimen- <br />sion of not less than 30 inches (762 <br />mm). Such openings shall be accessi- <br />ble to the fire department from the <br />exterior and shall not be obstructed <br />in a manner that firefighting or res- <br />cue cannot be accomplished from the <br />exterior. When openings in a story <br />are provided on only one side and <br />the opposite wall of such story is <br />more than 75 feet (22 860 mm) from <br />such openings, the story shall be <br />provided with an approved automatic <br />sprinkler system, or openings as <br />specified above shall be provided on <br />at least two sides of an exterior wall <br />of the story. <br />If any portion of a basement is locat- <br />ed more than 75 feet (22 860 mm) <br />from openings required in this sec- <br />tion, the basement shall be provided <br />with an approved automatic sprinkler <br />system. <br />6. At the top of rubbish and linen <br />chutes and in their terminal rooms. <br />Chutes extending through three or <br />more floors shall have additional <br />sprinkler heads installed within such <br />chutes at alternate floors. Sprinkler <br />heads shall be accessible for servic- <br />ing. <br />7. In rooms where nitrate film is <br />stored or handled. <br />8. In protected combustible fiber <br />storage vaults as defined in the Fire <br />Code. <br />9. Throughout all buildings with a <br />floor level with an occupant load of <br />30 or more that is located 55 feet <br />(16 764 mm) or more above the low- <br />est level of fire department vehicle <br />access. <br />EXCEPTIONS: 1.
