20.08.026 <br />Part I-ALLOWABLE STRESS DE- <br />SIGN OF WOOD <br />This standard, with certain excep- <br />tions, is the ANSI/NFoPA NDS-97 <br />National Design Specification for <br />Wood Construction of the American <br />Forest and Paper Association, 1997 <br />Edition, and the Supplement to the <br />1997 Edition, National Design Speci- <br />fication, adopted by reference. <br />The National Design Specification <br />for Wood Construction, 1997 Edi- <br />tion, and supplement are available <br />from the American Forest and Paper <br />Association, 1111 19th Street, NW, <br />Eighth Floor, Washington, DC, <br />20036. <br />(Ord. 1869 § 2, 2002) <br />20.08.027 Section 2316.1 -Amended <br />- Adoption And Scope: <br />Section 2316.1 of the California <br />Building Standards Code 2001 Edition <br />(24 CCR), and including by reference <br />the Uniform Building Code, is amended <br />to read as follows: <br />2316.1 Adoption and Scope. The <br />National Design Specification for <br />Wood Construction, 1997 Edition <br />(NDS), which is hereby adopted as a <br />part of this code, shall apply to the <br />design and construction of wood <br />structures using visually graded <br />lumber, mechanically graded lumber, <br />structural glued laminated timber, <br />and timber piles. National Design <br />Specification Appendix Section F, <br />Design for Creep and Critical De- <br />flection Applications, Appendix <br />Section G, Effective Column Length, <br />and Appendix Section J, Solution of <br />Hankinson Formula are specifically <br />adopted and made a part of this stan- <br />dard. The Supplement to the 1997 <br />Edition National Design Specifica- <br />tion is specifically adopted and made <br />a part of this standard. <br />Other codes, standards or specifica- <br />tions referred to in this standard are <br />to be considered as only an indica- <br />tion of an acceptable method or <br />material that can be used with the <br />approval of the building official, <br />except where such other codes, stan- <br />dards or specifications are specifical- <br />ly adopted by this code as primary <br />standards. <br />(Ord. 1869 § 2, 2002) <br />20.08.028 Section 2316.2 Item 1, <br />Section 1.1 -Amended - <br />Amendments: <br />Section 2316.2 of the California <br />Building Standards Code 2001 Edition <br />(24 CCR), and including by reference <br />the Uniform Building Code, is amended <br />to read as follows: <br />2316.2. Amendments. <br />1. Sec. 1.1. Delete and substitute <br />the following: <br />The design of structures using visu- <br />ally graded lumber, mechanically <br />graded lumber, structural glued lami- <br />nated timber, timber piles, and de- <br />sign of their connections shall be <br />determined in accordance with these <br />test procedures and shall be multi- <br />plied by all applicable adjustment <br />factors (see Table 7.3.1) to obtain <br />allowable design values. <br />(Pleasanton April 2003) 700_2 <br />
