Paee 17
Commissioner Blank pointed out the language, "Encourage the location of a
`- UC Extension facility in Pleasanton," followed by "Facilitate free or low-cost wireless."
He inquired what the difference was between encouraging and facilitating an item.
Ms. Stern noted that they could be similar and that an example of facilitating could be in
developing a contract.
Commission Peazce believed it was more neutral than facilitating.
Commissioner Blank believed that both items should be both encouraged and facilitated.
Commissioner Roberts believed that it was decided that the free wireless broadband
would only be available in public places. Ms. Stern noted that was being debated by the
EVC, and that they wished to be consistent but also explore other azeas in the future.
Paees 18 - 22
There were no comments.
Paee 23
Commissioner Blank believed that with respect to the language "Initiate a Shop
Pleasanton campaign," it would be nice to have an incentive program for shopping in
Pleasanton.
('' Ms. Ott noted that idea had been brought forwazd by the Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioner Blank noted that in his business dealings, he consistently received
comments from his staff and out-of--town visitors that there did not appear to be a large
number of upscale business-oriented restaurants that could be appropriate for entertaining
clients.
Paee 24
There were no comments.
Pie 25
Commissioner Roberts expressed concern about references to "fair-shaze regional market
housing" because there had been a lot of questioning about how the City's fair shaze was
allocated. She noted that in the long run, it may change and maybe reassessed.
Ms. Stern noted that would happen, but there would still be a shaze to which Pleasanton
would be expected to contribute. Several members of the Council shared Commissioner
Roberts' concerns.
Pages 26 - 28
There were no comments.
r-~
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES Mazch 29, 2006 Page 9 of 25
