the feasibility of narrowing the road in front of the Ketell and Leuthauser homes, with a
r~ sidewalk on the north side of Cameron Avenue as suggested by staff. She recalled a
discussion in 1997 regazding a three-way stop sign at Cameron Avenue and Martin
Avenue and would like staffto exatnine that possibility. She believed that the crosswalk
from Martin Avenue to Cameron Avenue did not properly direct pedestrian traffic and
would like it to be redirected to the north side. She noted that a lot of pedestrian traffic
occurred at dusk along the buffer zone and would like the visibility issue to be addressed
by providing adequate street lighting. She would like the traffic on Cameron Avenue to
be calmed by flashing traffic monitors.
Commission Pearce believed the neighborhood's charm was its rural feel, and she would
like to explore alternate routes in the neighborhood without impacting Cameron Avenue.
She would like to explore a curved road. She would like to see other alternatives as other
communities have used.
Question 2 -Public Sidewalks
Commissioner Roberts believed that any sidewalk must be rural and made of compacted
granite or a similaz substance rather than cement.
Chairperson Arkin categorically rejected any use of eminent domain in this project. The
Commission concurred.
r" Commissioner Fox suggested looking at other sidewalk substances to accommodate
pedestrians with wagons and strollers and did not believe compacted granite may be
appropriate for those pedestrians.
Commission Peazce would like to explore other sidewalk options not yet discussed.
Ms. Decker stated that there had been no conversations within the City to conduct
eminent domain on the property. She noted that Pleasanton, as with other municipalities,
was not in favor of enacting that option.
Commissioner Blank would like to see more rural designs and use of wood in these
homes.
Commissioner Roberts noted that this was an eclectic neighborhood.
Commissioner Fox appreciated the vaziety of the designs and believed the roof in Plan 3
had too much mass to it.
Commissioner Roberts suggested that the deeds to the single-story homes restrict the
building of a second story. The Commission concurred.
Chairperson Arkin would like to have further workshops.

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES Mazch 29, 2006 Page 22 of 25
