~ Mr. Wolfe noted that the language include examples and typically would state that it was
~ part of a Master Plan process. The language could read, "A 17-acre pazk is plazmed. The
specific amenities will be developed through the task force and Pazks and Recreation
Commission."
Paee VI-21
Commissioner Roberts would like a more precise definition of "cultural arts," which
could encompass fine arts, crafts, civic art, and mechanical arts. She did not believe that
was a useful phrase without the definitions.
Commissioner Fox noted that with respect to future projects such as the renovations to
the Veterans Memorial Building, Firehouse Arts Center, Downtown restroom, and the
Bernal Property, she would like to include the expansion of the aquatic center and
creating new facilities for a toddler playground and pool. She believed those items were
funded.
Mr. Wolfe noted that the previous night, City Council defended Phase II of the aquatic
center and reallocated the money to the Alviso Adobe project.
Commissioner Fox inquired whether the "thousand-seat amphitheater" should include the
specific number of seats as referenced in the General Plan. She believed that was an
optional phased item and suggested changing the language to, "a cultural arts center,
environmental education center, a ' ,^^~~ potential amphitheatre...."
Chairperson Arkin noted that with respect to the Downtown restrooms, he would like
some definition of the standazds; he would like to see restrooms scattered throughout
Downtown so everyone would be within 500 yards of a restroom. He would like some
signage directing people to the public restroom.
Mr. Wolfe noted that as stated at the City Council meeting, the Downtown Specific Plan
called for three potential locations for restrooms in the Downtown area: Civic Park,
Delucchi Park, and Main Street Green. There was also discussion about the possibility of
making the restrooms at the Museum available to the public. He believed setting a
certain distance may be difficult and may require the purchase of land.
Chairperson Arkin believed that sufficient restrooms Downtown would be important to
families with small children.
Paee VI-21
Commissioner Fox requested that the term "citizen" be replaced by "resident;" she
believed the word "citizen" implied the person was a United States citizen.
Commissioner Blank noted that the wording referred to "its citizens," meaning citizens of
Pleasanton.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES February 22, 2006 Page 11 of 21
