improved considerably to blend with Pleasanton's character. She believed this would be
~ a good retail use if the synagogue could be buffered. She did not understand why there
was a sidewalk from Bernal Avenue to the store and did not anticipate a lot of pedestrian
traffic from Bernal Avenue to Home Depot. She was strongly opposed to the loop road.
She believed the "big box" appearance should be changed architecturally and did not
want the gas station to be an entrance to the City.
Commissioner Peazce believed the Saturday morning deliveries would interfere with the
synagogue's services.
In response to an inquiry by Chairperson Arkin regazding whether the Commission could
limit the type of use so a fast-food drive through restaurant could not be located in the
center, Mr. Roush confirmed that the Commission could condition the use so only hot
drinks (such as a latte retailer) could be sold at the drive-through.
Commissioner Peazce noted that she did not support the gas station.
Commissioner Fox did not support the gas station and suggested moving the structure
100 feet over, creating a greenbelt between the center and the synagogue, similaz to the
separation between Trinity Lutheran Church and the surrounding neighborhood.
Commissioner Maas inquired whether the gas station could be included without it being
so prominent.
Chairperson Arkin would support modifying the corner of the tower element.
Commissioner Fox expressed concern about the noise resulting from moving seasonal
items in and out of the store, such as bazbeque grills.
Commissioner Maas noted that the representative from Home Depot stated that they
would try to do that.
Chairperson Arkin believed the major issue of this project was traffic, and it was up to
the applicant to convince the community that it would not be severely impacted by this
project.
Commissioner Maas suggested looking into a crosswalk at the temple for overflow
pazking on the weekends.
It was the consensus of the Commission to delete the loop road.
No action was taken.

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES January 11, 2006 Page 17 of 19
