Commissioner Kinzer advised that he was also in favor of Concept C, but had concerns about the lack of
baseball fields. Mr. Wolfe discussed the possibility that the Commission could include the additional
fields at the master planning stage, but at this point think about park amenities they would like to
recommend to the City Council.
Commissioner Dibiase also liked Concept C, and discussed with staff the possibility of adding two (2)
baseball fields if the City obtains additional acreage on the property. Mr. Rasmussen and Mr. Fulford
provided information about the City of Danville's multi-use facility, the sharing of baseball fields with
other sports uses, and details about the lighting layout.
Mr. Wolfe reminded the Commission that all of the leagues are looking for space on a year-round basis,
which is a reason the City has moved away from multi-use fields.
Commissioner Pentin confirmed that an equestrian staging area could be addressed when the parks master
plan was being developed.
Vice-Chairperson Kummer indicated that he did not like this location for sports fields, and would prefer to
see more open space maintained in the park. He felt that sports fields would be more suitably located in
the Chain of Lakes area, and that the Commission should be focusing on fields at the Bernal property.
Commissioner Kummer further discussed the Sharks offer to help with landscaping at Staples Ranch
Community Park, but not with lighted fields. He also felt that park amenities should be complementary
with the senior care facility.
Mr. Wolfe advised the Commission that its first responsibility is to recommend elements for the proposed
park to the City Council. The master plan phase would address the specific locations for those amenities.
A motion was made by Commissioner Pentin, seconded by Commissioner Kinzer, recommending that the
City Council approve Concept C for Staples Ranch Community Park (T), with baseball fields being given
the first priority if additional acreage becomes available.
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Dibiase, Kinzer, and Pentin.
NOES: Vice-Chairperson Kummer
ABSENT: Chairperson Ellgas.
ABSTAIN: None
Vice-Chairperson Kummer recommended a break be taken from 8:50 - 9:00 p.m.
C.
