<br />Chairman Landon then opened the public hearing on the application of L.A. Nilliker,
<br />4377 Pirst Street, for a Variance from Section 13.500, Ord. No. 309, in order to
<br />allow location of an advertizing sign within the front yard setback at the above
<br />location in a C-G District. Mr. Hilliker stated he was unaware that the LO ft.
<br />front yard setback applied to signs. The subject sign is two feet from the aides
<br />walk. It was saved by Commissioner Antonini, eeconded by Commissioner Rega, and
<br />carried, that the public hearing be closed, Mr. Fa lea, in giving the staff report,
<br />stated the subject sign is already installed and, after having seen the sign, in
<br />view of the proximity of a tree, he is of the opinion it does not interfere with
<br />traffic or turning movements ae it ie not near an intersection. It ie a wooden,
<br />non-illuminated sign which fits in with the architecture of the building. The
<br />staff recommends the Variance be granted with the condition that it be subject to
<br />this particular sign and that it is placed precisely where it is now located. Also,
<br />a photograph will be taken of the subject sign which will be added to the City's
<br />files on the matter. Mr. Hilliker requested that when sore rentals are added he be
<br />allowed to hang the names of such businesses under the same sign. Commissioner
<br />Rega mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce has given Mr. Hilliker an award for the
<br />building, and he feels the sign camplementa the area. Upon motion of Commissioner
<br />Rega, eeconded by Commissioner Antonini, the following resolution was unanimously
<br />adopted by those Commissioners present:

<br />Commission for amendments to Articles E through 14, Ord. No. 309, in order to
<br />provide for t:~e anandatory installation of ~!.nderground utilities in all. multiple
<br />residential and co~:oercial zoning districts. Mr. Dwight Galloway, representing
<br />P.G. E., was present in the a~idience. There being no comments from the audience,
<br />it was moved by Cnuaissioner Antonini, seconded by Commissioner Rega, and carried,
<br />that the public hearing be closed, After considerable discussion between the
<br />Commission, ctaf.f and Mr. Galloway, upon motion of Commissioner Rega, eeconded by
<br />Commissioner Antonini, the following resolution was adopted by unanimous vote of
<br />those Commissioners present:

<br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission on its own motion has considered
<br />amendments to Articles 8 through 14, Ord. No. 309, in order
<br />to provide for the mandatory installation of underground utilities
<br />in all multiple residential and commercial zoning districts;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
<br />1. The Planning Commission does hereby recommend to the
<br />City Council amendment of the above-named articles by
<br />adding to each article a section including the following
<br />language: "Utilities shall be placed underground from
<br />the nearest exiatiog utility pole in any District."
<br />The next public hearing to be opened by Chairman Landon was on the application of
<br />Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co., 177 Yoat Street, San Francisco, for a Condi-
<br />tional Use Permit in order to construct an addition to an existing public utility
<br />building located at 4341 Railroad Avenue in an R-1 District. There being no com-
<br />ments from the audience, it was moved by Commissioner Antonini, eeconded by Com-
<br />missioner Rega, aml carried, that the public hearing be closed. Mr. Falea, in
<br />giving the staff report read a statement regarding this request contained in the
<br />subject application from Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. The request is for
