Upon motion of Commissioner Arnold, seconded by Commissioner Garrigan, and
carried, the Public Hearing was closed.
During the discussion between the Commissioners and the City staff, Mr. Charles
Dobbins, Chief Building Inspector for the City, spoke from the audience, and
gave his views on this application. He stated that he had made an unofficial
inspection of the premises and found that it needed some termite-prevention
work, but otherwise was sound from the roof up. Regarding accommodations for
the Church attendees, he stated that there is one fairly long room that would
be adequate to hold the present congregation of 40 individuals.
There was considerable discussion again after the remarks made by the City Chief
Building Inspector, and the Commissioners were unable to make a firm decision
on the matter at that time.
Upon motion of Chairman Antonini, seconded by Commissioner Garrigan, and carried,
the following resolution was adopted unanimously.
RESOLUTION N0. 836
WHEREAS, the application of the Pentecostal Church
of God to allow the construction of a Church
in a R-1 District at that property commonly
known as 431 Neal Street, containing 1.49 acres
more or less, has come before this Commission,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Planning Commission of the City of
Pleasanton hereby continues this application
to the regular meeting of January 22, 1969.
b. RZ-68-12. Kaiser Sand and Gravel
To rezone from the I-P (Industrial Park) District to the I-G (General Industry)
District that parcel of land described as a portion of Parcel 2, Block 1250,
Assessor's Map Book 946, containing 55 acres.
Chairman Antonini opened the Public Hearing. The requested property is entirely
bordered by the I-G District. There was a certain amount of discussion regard-
ing the feasibility of an I-G District going in in that particular spot. But
the Planning Director felt that there will be adequate protection for the people
in the Jensen tract as far as the noise factor is concerned.
Chairman Antonini and Mr. Castro had made a field trip to Union City to inspect
Ken Best Block Company, a concrete manufacturer, who possibly would relocate in
Kaiser's land if the rezoning were approved.
Mr. William Downing of Kaiser Sand & Gravel, was present and explained their
position. He also stated that although they had originally requested the I-G
zoning, he could see the advantage of rezoning to the PUD and thus changed his
request for the zoning to the PUD (Planned Unit Development), feeling it would
benefit Kaiser to have the greater control on the establishments going in on
their property. He also stated that Kaiser would entertain the possibility of
a buffer strip on the eastern boundary of the Jensen tract.
Upon motion of Commissioner Garrigan, seconded by Chairman Antonini, and carried,
the following resolution was unanimously adopted.
RESOLUTION N0. 837
A resolution of the Planning Commission of
the City of Pleasanton, recommending to the
City Council the approval of Zone Change 4k68-12,
filed by Kaiser Sand & Gravel.
- 5 -
