BACKGROUND The tennis courts at Pleasanton Middle School are available for use by the general public after regular school hours and during the summer recess. For some time now, the subject courts have been suffering from surface cracking - a result of unusually expansive sub-soils. This problem, combined with the lack of court lighting, limits use of the courts by Pleasanton residents. With the support of the Pleasanton Unified School District, the City has offered to upgrade the courts, to expand opportunities for public play. A total of three (3) specialty-paving contractors pulled plans for the project, and considered submitting bids; however, at the May 22, 2007 bid opening, a single bid was received from the firm of Vintage Contractors, Inc. of San Francisco. This contractor has worked for the City in the past (Fairlands Park Tennis Court Re-surfacing project), is known to be reputable and reliable, and all bid documents were found to be in order. While only a single bid was received for the project, the Contractor has provided a complete breakdown of all costs associated with the work, and staff is satisfied that the costs for the proposed work are equitable. This project requires conformance to a very strict construction schedule, as work can only be performed during the two-month school summer recess period, between approximately June 15th and August 15th. The Contractor is confident that this schedule can be met, as the lighting materials will be available for immediate installation upon award of the construction contract. Should the Council award this contract, it is anticipated that construction will begin on June 18, 2007, and be completed and ready for public use on August 13, 2007. fitted by: Fiscal Review: Approv by: ~..
