THE CITY OF
-° " -'- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~NTONo
June 5, 2007
Parks and Community Services Department
TITLE: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR PLEASANTON
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS COURT LIGHTING AND RE-SURFACING,
PROJECT NO. 067014
SUMMARY
A bid has been received for the construction of lighting and paving improvements for the
tennis courts at Pleasanton Middle School, and staff is recommending award to the sole
bidder, Vintage Contractors, Inc., in the amount of $142,120. The project consists of
recreational level lighting and controls for the two (2) existing tennis courts, as well as
structural pavement, re-surfacing, and fencing repairs. This work would provide lighted
tennis courts that are commensurate in quality with those found at Pleasanton Tennis
and Community Park.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of June 5, 2007:
1. Award a construction contract for the subject project to Vintage Contractors,
Inc., in the amount of $142,120.
2. Authorize the transfer of $84,032 to this project from the Fairlands Park
Irrigation Renovation Project, CIP No. 027012, to augment existing project
reserves.
3. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for this project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The construction contract with Vintage Contractors is in the amount of $142,120, and
staff is recommending a construction contingency of $14,212 (10%) to allow for
changes in the work that may be necessary due to unforeseen field conditions. Staff
has also already "pre-ordered" the primary lighting components -poles, fixtures and
anchor bolts, to eliminate construction delays (as these are typically long lead-time
items). The cost of these components is $15,700, making the total project budget
$172,032. A total of $88,000 is currently available for the project in the Park Renovation
Fund. Staff is recommending the transfer of $84,032 from the Fairlands Park Irrigation
Renovation Project, to augment existing project reserves.
It is anticipated that this project will require approximately $3,500 in annual maintenance
costs to pay for electrical usage, occasional net replacements, re-tamping, and other
minor repairs and upkeep.
