pay or seniority not to exceed three (3) months. No such leave shall be granted except in <br /> writing and upon written request of the employee setting forth the reason therefor. Upon <br /> expiration of a regularly approved leave. the employee shall be reinstated in the position held at <br /> the time leave was granted. Failure on the part of an employee on leave to report promptly at <br /> its expiration or within a reasonable time after notice to return to duty shall be cause for <br /> discipline up to and including termination. Department directors may grant full - time middle <br /> management and confidential employees leave of absence without pay for not to exceed one (1) <br /> calendar week. Such leaves shall be reported to the personnel director. <br /> 7.7(2) Jury Leave <br /> Management and confidential employees called or required to serve as a juror shall be entitled <br /> to leave from his/her duties with the City during the period of such service or while necessarily <br /> being present in court as a result of such call. <br /> 7.7(3) Military Leave <br /> Military leave shall be granted in accordance with the provisions of the law. All employees <br /> entitled to military leave shall give the City Manager an opportunity within the limits of <br /> military regulations to determine when such leave shall be taken. <br /> 7.7(4) Extended Medical Leave <br /> Any regular or probationary employee who is temporarily disabled from work due to a medical <br /> condition may, upon written request to the Department Head and the Personnel Director, be <br /> granted by the City Manager, a leave of absence without pay for a period not to exceed three <br /> (3) months beyond the exhaustion of any accrued sick and vacation leave. Upon a <br /> recommendation by the Department Head, the City Manager may extend the leave for up to an <br /> additional thirty (30) days. <br /> The term "medical disability" includes all temporary medical disabilities including pregnancy, <br /> childbirth and associated medical conditions. Total approved paid and unpaid time away from <br /> work because of medical disability prior to and after the birth of a child, shall not exceed one <br /> hundred twenty (120) days. <br /> 9/1/99 Page 13 of26 <br />
