DGtB September 10, 1970 Time : 8:45 PM PIG Cg; Pleasanton Justice Court After deliberation on the type of equipment Mr. Sullins plans to offer on his premises, and further deliberation regarding Western Sierra's impending merger and eventual phase out of the facility, a motion was passed allowing him to conduct his business for one year, pending the outcome of the merger arrangements of Western Sierra Lumber Compan Review of request by Western Sierra Lumber Company for temporary signing for their facility at 4301 Valley Avenue, Pleasanton - Discussion followed on this matter, but the final outcome was that the Commission denied this request. Review of brightness of signs on Main Street - A report prepared by the staff was presented to the Commission. Considerable discussion followed. It was the feeling of the commissioners that some definite guidelines needed to be set up as far as brightness of signs is concerned. It was also felt by Commissioner Pereira that perhaps the number of foot lamberts in a sign should be corresponded to the color and lettering of a sign, which would have quite an effect on its brightness and read- ability. Commissioner Pereira felt that if a definite image for the downtown area is desired, then a specific signing program and guide should be worked up. Perhaps an amendment to the zoning ordinance will be required regarding the maximum allowed for the foot lamberts. A new policy was set up whereby if a sign proposal is negotiable, the staff would handle it; if problems develop, then the matter would be reviewed by the Design Revi Board, especially signing in the downtown area. Also, the City Attorney is going to go into the legalities and feasibility of changing the sign ordinance. - 6 -
