Absent: Board to be heard by Abstain: the full Commission) The Public Hearing was opened by Chairman Garriga n. The architect, Mr. Wayne Hertzka, spoke of the staff report and the architectural draw- ings. Discussion followed on the materials to be utilized. Regarding the the roof for the community facility, as noted in the staff report, the applicant requested the option to utilize heavy wood shake in place of the tile. After further discussion, the Public Hearing was closed. A resolution recommending approval of the design plans for Z-71-34, subject to certain conditions, was entered and passed. MATTERS FOR Sidewalk phone booths on Main Street - a COMMISSION'S REVIEW memorandum was submitted by the Director of Public Works, requesting that the Planning Commission lend its support to the City's efforts to get Pacific Telephone Company to remove all the phone booths within Under- ground Utility District 71-1, lying between Rose Avenue and the Post Office on Main St., to allow for provisions for the future installation of six sidewalk phone booths at locations earlier approved. While on the subject of the phone booths for the downtown area, the Commissioners request that the staff endeavor to obtain phone booths more in keeping with the character of the downtown area. xlx x - 3 -
